Tehran Announces Suspension of Its Commitments Under Islamabad Memorandum, Accuses Washington of Violating It
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Gharib Abadi announced that his country has suspended all its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum, confirming that the United States has violated all its commitments within the framework of this agreement.
Gharib Abadi said in statements carried by Iran's Tasnim news agency: 'The United States has violated all its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum and stopped them all, and we have also suspended our commitments and are not implementing them, and we are busy defending the homeland.'
He added: 'We were in the negotiation phase, but unfortunately the Americans themselves violated their commitments under the memorandum of understanding and committed these aggressive acts,' pointing out that 'Iran's current approach is firm defense of the homeland.'
He continued: 'What we are facing now is firmly defending the homeland, and the Americans have received their response so far, proving that these aggressive acts will lead to no result.'
In a related context, Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani accused the UN Security Council of 'standing by idle while the United States commits war crimes and targets civilians in Iran.'
In the same context, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that China and Pakistan called on the United States and Iran to cease fire as soon as possible and resume negotiations.
These developments come after US President Donald Trump announced on July 9 that the ceasefire with Iran was no longer in effect, before Tehran announced on the 12th of the same month the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until the end of what it described as US intervention in the region.
