Trump Announces Naval Blockade on Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States will immediately begin imposing a naval blockade on Iran.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social: 'Iranian ships will be banned from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States will ensure the right to fair and open use of the waterway for all other countries.'
He added that the United States will impose a 20% transit fee on shipments to cover all necessary costs for providing security and safety in this highly volatile region of the world.
The U.S. president noted that the United States is investing huge sums in protecting the strait and that the international community should contribute to the funding.
He stressed that Iran's naval, air, and missile capabilities have been almost completely destroyed, listing the names of several Iranian leaders killed during the conflict.
Earlier, the United States launched attacks against Iran until the early hours of Monday morning in response to an attack on a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. Central Command said in a statement: 'It bombed dozens of targets in multiple locations using precision munitions to undermine Iran's ability to continue attacking international shipping flowing through the strait.'
It added in a statement that U.S. forces are on high alert to ensure freedom of navigation for commercial shipping in the face of Iran's unjustified aggression, harassment, threats, and arbitrary statements.
