Washington - Agencies:
US President Donald Trump revealed that the United States has granted Iran a one-week deadline to hold funeral ceremonies for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei 'out of kindness,' according to his words.
Trump said on the sidelines of the US celebration of the 250th anniversary of its independence that 'Iranians are eagerly looking to reach an agreement.' He added: 'We defeated Venezuela in one day and taught Iran a harsh lesson. They are desperate for a settlement. They desperately want a settlement. We gave them a week off for Ali Khamenei's funeral because we are kind.'
Funeral ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader began in Tehran with the participation of thousands of Iranians, more than four months after his killing on the first day of the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.
For its part, Iran renewed its warning against any Western military movements in this navigational corridor.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said in a post on X: 'As the responsible power and guarantor of the security of the Strait of Hormuz, we warn against any military movement in it.'
He stressed that Hormuz is not a military parade ground for non-regional forces, warning that anyone who tries to stir crises will bear the consequences of their adventures.
This came after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday that Oman agreed to work with Britain and France to ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open.
They also stressed that Hormuz is a vital artery for the global economy, and that restoring safe passage for ships of all nations through the strait is a matter of global concern. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom and France are preparing to launch a military mission to maintain the strait without future blockade. Arabs and peoples of the Middle East
