Trump: Next week will be very bad for Iran

US President Donald Trump threatened to expand attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran, saying that power plants and bridges would be targeted if Tehran does not return to the negotiating table.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the United States would strike Iran 'very hard' in the coming nights.

Trump said: 'Next week, it will become very bad for them. We will destroy all their power plants. We will destroy all their bridges if they do not return to the table and negotiate.'

In response to a question about whether the strikes would continue, Trump said: 'They will continue until I say enough.'

Trump had issued similar threats in April, when he warned of destroying bridges and power plants within hours in an attempt to pressure Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, vital for global oil and liquefied natural gas trade.

On Wednesday afternoon, the US military launched new airstrikes in broad daylight. US Central Command reported that the attacks lasted about 90 minutes and targeted coastal defense systems as well as cruise missile storage and launch facilities on Greater Tunb Island.

On Tuesday, the US military said it launched a new wave of attacks on Iran and resumed imposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports and coastal areas. Washington confirmed that the latest strikes aimed to prevent Iran from attacking commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump added that US forces 'have inflicted severe damage on Iranian military capabilities' and that rebuilding them 'could take about 20 years' if operations stop now.

He explained that Washington's goal is to prevent Tehran from possessing a nuclear weapon, maintain freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and undermine Iranian military capabilities, asserting that 'Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.'
