US President Donald Trump said that his country's military is 'ready to destroy Iran' if Tehran assassinates him or attempts to carry out an assassination plot against him.
In a post on the US platform 'Truth Social' on Saturday, Trump addressed the possibility of an assassination attempt against him, emphasizing that the US military response in such a scenario would be very severe.
Trump added: 'If Iran assassinates the current US president, that is me, or attempts to do so, there are a thousand missiles aimed at Iran and ready to launch. They will be immediately followed by thousands more missiles.'
He explained that the necessary instructions have been given to the US military, saying that the armed forces are 'ready, willing, and able to completely destroy and annihilate all parts of Iran' for a year, with the possibility of extending this period if necessary.
In remarks to the 'New York Post' newspaper, Trump claimed that he has been on the 'target list' of the Iranian leadership for a long time.
He confirmed that he has issued instructions for 'unprecedented bombing of Iran' if it attempts to assassinate him.
In response to a question about reports that Israel obtained intelligence information this week about a plot to assassinate the US president, Trump replied that Iran does not have a new plan in this regard, but added that he has been 'number one' on Iran's assassination list for years.
On Thursday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the execution of strikes targeting around 90 Iranian military sites, including air defense systems, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and logistical infrastructure on the Iranian coast.
In response, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced targeting US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, warning of expanding the scope of its attacks if the US strikes continue.
The Gulf region has been witnessing escalating tension since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran on February 28 last month.
After Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 last month, negotiations between them continue with the mediation of Qatar and Pakistan to reach a final agreement.
