The Ukrainian parliament on Thursday appointed Serhiy Koretsky as Prime Minister, replacing Yulia Sviridenko, who resigned earlier this week.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky nominated Serhiy Koretsky, CEO of the state-owned energy company Naftogaz, to take over as Prime Minister.

Zelensky said Koretsky is the best candidate for the post of Prime Minister because Ukraine's priority is to prepare for the coming winter.

Zelensky explained that the priorities are clear: preparing for winter. Therefore, after all consultations, Serhiy Koretsky is definitely the most ready candidate to assume the post of Prime Minister.

Stefanchuk said yesterday that the Ukrainian parliament had received the president's proposal regarding the appointment of Koretsky.

It is noteworthy that Koretsky, 48, is a businessman who has held senior executive and managerial positions in various companies in the energy sector, including Naftogaz, which he has headed since May 2025.

Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko resigned during the current week after only one year in office, with parliament accepting her resignation on Tuesday.

The appointment comes amid ongoing Russian attacks on Kyiv, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today: Two people have been confirmed killed in Kyiv from the Russian missile strike last night.

Zelensky wrote on his account on X that five people were also injured, including a child, adding: The Russians damaged a high-rise residential building, warehouse facilities, and vehicles.

He noted that Russian strikes on the Kharkiv region injured four people, stating that the attacks were carried out with drones and a guided aerial bomb, causing damage to ordinary homes and entirely civilian sites, including a cinema and tennis courts.

In the Sumy region, Zelensky said a public park was hit, in addition to a tractor brigade, as well as damage to residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia.

He noted that damage to power grid facilities was reported in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, and Donetsk regions, accusing Russia of launching 13 missiles, including eight ballistic missiles, and 151 drones.
