UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk called for urgent action to rescue some 6,000 sailors stranded on 400 ships in the Strait of Hormuz, warning of a worsening humanitarian and rights crisis.
He said: "Some ship owners have abandoned their crews without food, water, medical care, or wages, while the number of sailors killed since the war began has reached 17." The High Commissioner also called for an end to attacks on civilian ships, securing evacuation and supplies, and returning the sailors to their home countries.
