The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Wednesday that it had redirected two commercial ships that attempted to breach the US blockade imposed on Iran.

CENTCOM said via its account on platform X: "Since the resumption of the naval blockade on Iranian ports 17 hours ago, US forces have redirected two commercial ships that attempted to breach the blockade."

It confirmed that "US military forces remain vigilant and ready to ensure full compliance with the blockade."

For its part, Iranian state television said that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, noting that at least two ships had been stopped in the past 24 hours.

Iran International website quoted the broadcaster as saying: "The Strait of Hormuz remains closed, and during the past 24 hours, at least two ships have been stopped after warning shots were fired by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy."

Media reported that Iran's Revolutionary Guard threatened to close "all other export corridors benefiting the United States and its allies," after Tehran closed the Strait of Hormuz and Washington reimposed a naval blockade on ports of the Islamic Republic.

The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted the Revolutionary Guard as saying in a statement that the region's energy exports "are either for all or denied to all."

Analysts say Iran is hinting that it may resort to its ally, Yemen's Houthi group, to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait leading to the Red Sea, signaling a new front against Washington and threatening two of the world's most important energy arteries.

A senior Houthi official said on Monday that the group is ready to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a step he indicated could raise oil prices to $200 per barrel if Saudi Arabia continues its attack on Yemen, according to a report published on the website of Iran's Press TV.

The latest threat to global maritime navigation comes a day after the US military announced the start of a new round of strikes "to further weaken Iran's ability to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz."

The United States said Tehran attacked seven commercial ships over the past week, resulting in the death, disappearance, or injury of nearly 12 crew members.

The US military said late Tuesday that it had bombed dozens of military targets near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian coastal areas. CENTCOM said in a statement that the raids lasted seven hours.
