US delegation leaves Pakistan after failure of negotiations with Iran
Islamabad, April 12 (QNA) - The US delegation left Pakistan on Sunday morning, after US Vice President JD Vance announced that no agreement had been reached with the Iranian side during the talks hosted by Islamabad.
Images showed Vance, who headed the US delegation, and its members boarding the plane to return to the United States, minutes after a brief press conference during which he announced the end of the round of negotiations in Islamabad without reaching an understanding. Vance said the talks ended after about 21 hours of discussions, noting that the Iranian side refused to accept US conditions regarding not developing nuclear weapons.
He explained that the talks were held in continuous coordination with US President Donald Trump and officials in the US administration, noting that Washington requires a clear commitment not to seek to possess a nuclear weapon or develop tools that enable that. He added that this demand represents the primary goal of the US administration, stressing that the negotiations came as part of an attempt to achieve this goal without reaching an agreement.
For its part, Iran's official state broadcasting said today that the "unreasonable demands" of the United States caused the collapse of the Iranian-American negotiations in Islamabad to end the war in the Middle East.
A post on the official Iranian television on the Telegram app reported that "the Iranian delegation negotiated tirelessly and intensively for 21 hours to defend the national interests of the Iranian people," adding that despite multiple initiatives on its part, the unreasonable demands of the US side prevented any progress in the negotiations. Thus, the negotiations have ended.
