(CNN)-- A US State Department official announced the conclusion of two days of "productive and positive talks" in Rome between Israel and Lebanon.

The official said: 'We agreed on the structure and guiding principles for the pilot area process, which will be finalized and implemented in the coming days. We will now move to expanded technical talks, which will focus on implementing all the terms of the tripartite framework with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement between Israel and Lebanon.'

The talks included representatives from the United States, led by State Department Counselor Dan Holler.

An Israeli official also described the talks as 'positive,' and said that Israel and Lebanon agreed on the need to disarm Hezbollah.

The Israeli official clarified that the two areas designated for the first Israeli military withdrawal from southern Lebanon have been agreed upon.

According to the official, 'Israel will use these two areas to test the Lebanese government's ability to secure them under the ceasefire agreement, which will be verified by a third party,' without specifying the entity that will take on this role.
