Venezuela confirmed the deaths of three people from Hantavirus, but stressed there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission in the South American country.

The Venezuelan Ministry of Health said on Tuesday that Hantavirus is also suspected of causing the deaths of two healthcare workers in the state of Barinas in the southwest of the country, and these two cases are still under investigation and have not been linked to the three deaths in the state of Anzoátegui in eastern Venezuela. The ministry described the deaths in Anzoátegui and Barinas as separate incidents that "do not represent a risk to society in general," but added that health workers will be sent to the two affected states "to ensure health security for all Venezuelans."
