The US military announced that 12 commercial ships have been rerouted since the resumption of the blockade on Iranian seaports, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Thursday evening.

In a statement posted on its X account, CENTCOM said: 'Since the resumption of the naval blockade against Iran, US Central Command has rerouted 12 commercial vessels and disrupted one vessel to prevent ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports or coastal areas.'

The United States had resumed the naval blockade on Iran on July 14 of this month due to Tehran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

With the resumption of confrontations between Tehran and Washington on July 7, fears are mounting that oil exports will be completely obstructed through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has closed.

The Strait of Hormuz has become a key card in the Middle East conflict. After Iran closed it during the war that broke out on February 28, it insists on controlling navigation there, something Washington rejects.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced on Thursday that it had prevented three oil tankers from crossing the Strait of Hormuz. The United States responds to Iran's ban on navigation in this waterway by imposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
