The Iranian Revolutionary Guard had announced the explosion of two oil tankers and their catching fire while crossing a route south of the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that they entered a minefield after being subjected to what it described as "deception and misdirection" by US intelligence agencies.

The Iranian Guard did not specify the nationality of the two tankers or the extent of the damage, nor did it announce any casualties or provide evidence supporting its account.

The exchange of accounts comes at a time when navigation traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is witnessing a noticeable decline as the confrontation between the United States and Iran escalates.

Data from the shipping company "Kepler" showed that only eight ships crossed the strait on Thursday, compared to 15 ships the previous day and 48 ships two weeks earlier, while the daily average crossing exceeded 100 ships before the war broke out in late February.
