Jeddah Islamic Port announced an increase in the exemption periods for storage fees for transit goods (transit) to 60 days, starting from July 19, 2026, as part of a package of facilities aimed at improving supply chain efficiency and enhancing the attractiveness of Saudi ports on the global trade map. This step reflects the accelerating pace of logistics transformation in the Kingdom.

Saudi political analysis

The decision highlights three main operational indicators: the exemption period for transit containers extended to 15 days, exemption for general transit goods for 5 days, in addition to granting an exemption period of 5 days for goods arriving via Ro-Ro ships and cars, giving beneficiaries greater flexibility in managing shipping, storage, and re-export operations.

These measures reflect a strategic direction to enhance the competitiveness of the port, which is the largest port in the Kingdom on the Red Sea and one of the most important hub centers for trade movement between East and West. It receives millions of tons of goods and containers annually, forming a cornerstone for regional and international supply chains.

Logistics sector specialists believe that extending the exemption periods contributes to reducing operational costs for investors and shipping companies, and provides shipping lines with additional advantages to choose Jeddah Islamic Port as a main station for transit goods, which in turn increases handling rates and improves the efficiency of services provided.

This step is consistent with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to establish the Kingdom's position as a global logistics center linking three continents, leveraging its unique geographical location and its advanced port network that is witnessing continuous expansion in infrastructure, digital, and operational services.

With the implementation of the decision, attention is turning to the expected impact of these incentives on transit traffic in the coming weeks, at a time when regional ports are competing to attract more shipping lines and transit shipments, while Jeddah Islamic Port continues to enhance its presence as a pivotal maritime gateway supporting trade growth and the efficient and sustainable flow of goods.
