Saudi Arabia is moving to develop the camel sector through the Camel City project in the governorate of Qaryat al-Ulya in the Eastern Province, with investments exceeding 11 billion riyals, in a step aimed at transforming the sector into an integrated economic and technological system. The project is built on an area of approximately 20 million square meters, with a capacity of up to about 150,000 camels.

The project is not limited to camel breeding, but includes the development of related value chains, including the production of milk, meat, hides, and wool, as well as the manufacturing of feed and vaccines, in addition to supporting scientific research, tourism, attracting investments, and providing job opportunities.

The project relies on modern technologies, including tracking chips and digital twin systems to monitor the health and productivity of camels, in addition to issuing an electronic passport that documents ownership data, health records, and genetic information. The 'Tiryaq' platform also employs artificial intelligence technologies to study the camel genome and benefit from nanobodies in developing future drugs and biological applications.

The city is planned to include a specialized hospital, research centers, a genetic bank for improving breeds, factories for producing milk, meat, serums, and vaccines, in addition to a museum and an academy for camel sciences, enhancing Saudi Arabia's position as a global center for camel trade and related biotechnologies.
