The Royal Spanish Football Federation made history after becoming the first national association to hold both the men's and women's World Cup titles simultaneously, following the men's team winning the 2026 World Cup, joining the women's team that won the 2023 World Cup, an unprecedented achievement in world football.

According to a survey by "Al-Eqtisadiah", the total value of prize money associated with the two titles amounts to approximately $63.5 million, one of the largest financial returns a football association has ever achieved from the men's and women's World Cup tournaments.

The Spanish men's team's title boosted the Spanish federation's coffers with a record prize, receiving $50 million, the largest financial award FIFA gives to a World Cup champion, plus $2.5 million for preparation and training costs.

According to the agreement between the federation and the players, the squad will receive 45% of the prize money, equivalent to around €755,000 per player from the 26-man roster.

The 2026 World Cup also saw world champions receive commemorative rings for the first time, similar to major American sports leagues, alongside activating bonus clauses in individual player sponsorship contracts and collective deals for the Spanish federation, as well as FIFA covering additional costs related to the official delegation and tickets for players' families.

Additional prizes from the Women's World Cup

On the other hand, the Spanish federation received $4.29 million after the women's team won the 2023 World Cup, plus $930,000 for preparation costs, bringing the total direct revenues from the tournament to over $5.2 million.

The tournament saw the implementation of FIFA's new system giving players direct financial rewards: each of the 23 players received $270,000 independently of the national association's share.

Spanish clubs whose players were in the squad also benefited from FIFA's club compensation program for player participation, in addition to extra bonuses from sponsors following the significant rise in the team's popularity after winning its first world title.

Gains beyond prize money

The Spanish federation's gains are not limited to direct prize money: this achievement is expected to increase sponsorship and broadcasting rights contracts, boost commercial revenues, enhance the appeal of Spanish football for investment, and support talent development programs and infrastructure.
