Decline in Ship Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz

Ship and tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz dropped to very low levels over the weekend, coinciding with the escalation of mutual strikes between the United States and Iran in the Middle East.

LSEG data recorded only four ships passing through the strait on Sunday, compared to eight ships the previous day. The data also showed that only three product tankers and one crude oil tanker managed to enter the strait since last Friday to load cargoes.

Ship tracking data from S&P Global Energy revealed that the 10-day moving average of LNG cargoes passing through the strait fell to just 0.2 cargo per day by mid-July, compared to about 0.8 cargo per day in late June, according to Reuters.
