European Commission Approves PIF's Acquisition of Electronic Arts
Logo of the Public Investment Fund The European Commission, under the EU Merger Regulation, has approved the acquisition of American company Electronic Arts by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. The Commission stated in a statement that the deal primarily involves the production and distribution of video games for mobile devices, personal computers, and consoles, as well as the organization and marketing of video game competitions, known as esports events. The Commission concluded that the notified transaction would not raise competition concerns, given its limited impact on competition in the markets where the two companies operate, noting that the deal underwent standard merger review procedures. According to data available on Argaam, Electronic Arts in September signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by an investor consortium including the Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, in an all-cash deal valuing Electronic Arts at approximately $55 billion. In December, Electronic Arts shareholders approved the sale of the company to the consortium for $55 billion, agreeing to the acquisition at $210 per share. The Public Investment Fund holds 24.8 million shares of Electronic Arts as of the end of the first quarter of 2026, representing 10% of the company's total shares.
