The Egyptian House of Representatives approved in principle on Monday the draft law submitted by the government on the issuance of the law reorganizing the Egypt's Future Authority for Sustainable Development.

The draft law aims to transfer the authority's affiliation to the presidency, along with the establishment of two funds under it, one sovereign and the other service.

The draft law regulates the financial relationship between the state and the fund, allowing for the deduction of percentages from the surpluses of the funds and the authority in favor of the treasury, with broad powers to merge state assets with joint activity with the authority.

The draft law submitted by the government on the issuance of the law reorganizing the Egypt's Future Authority for Sustainable Development aims to: reclaim millions of feddans of land to bridge the food gap and reduce imports, especially of strategic commodities; establish new integrated urban and industrial communities that manage energy waste; create logistics zones; and open the door for local and foreign investors and national companies to manage and operate lands and factories.

The Egypt's Future Authority for Sustainable Development was established by Presidential Decree No. 591 of 2022, with the aim of contributing to desert land reclamation projects in Egypt. The authority works to reclaim new lands in the Western Desert, Eastern Desert, and northern and southern Egypt.

The Egypt's Future Authority began in 2017 implementing agricultural reclamation projects on small areas using modern irrigation methods and precision farming technology.

The successes of the Egypt's Future Authority in agricultural reclamation projects have gradually increased until it managed to leave its mark on Egypt's vast deserts, successfully reclaiming about 4.5 million feddans in various regions across the country, not only in the New Delta Project. This area includes projects in: the New Delta, Minya, Beni Suef, the Desert Hinterland, Sinai, and Aswan.
