HYPNOSIS: Israel Unveils New Anti-Drone Defense System

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has unveiled a new anti-drone system called HYPNOSIS, a highly capable advanced air defense system designed to disrupt and neutralize aerial threats that rely on satellite navigation.
According to the Jerusalem Post, the system adds a dedicated soft-kill layer to existing air defense structures, aimed at countering the increasing use of drone systems deployed in large numbers.
Modern aerial platforms, especially drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles, rely on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) for precise positioning and timing data.
By jamming or spoofing these signals, the HYPNOSIS system prevents hostile systems from accurately reaching their targets. Spoofing and jamming have emerged as powerful tools to disrupt GPS signals, and military forces have long used these methods in electronic warfare.
Jamming involves overwhelming GPS receivers with noise or interference on the same frequency used by satellites.
Deception of the positioning system, not jamming.
Because GPS signals are extremely weak by the time they reach the ground, even low-power jammers can completely block them, causing service outages where aircraft, ships, cars, and smartphones suddenly lose their ability to determine location or time.
Although jamming is relatively easy to detect—users simply notice their devices stop working—it can cause massive chaos. Spoofing, however, is more deceptive; instead of blocking signals, spoofing creates fake signals that mimic legitimate satellite broadcasts.
A receiver picking up these fake signals calculates incorrect positions, speeds, or times, often without realizing it has been deceived, making spoofing much harder to detect than jamming.
The operator may continue to see GPS readings that appear normal, unaware of being misled.
HYPNOSIS System
The HYPNOSIS system consists of mobile jamming and signal spoofing stations deployed around protected areas. These stations work together through a unified command and control center that manages real-time coordination, threat analysis, and rapid response.
This architecture allows the HYPNOSIS system to adapt to changing threat environments and operate independently without operator intervention.
Based on the company's expertise in naval warfare technologies, HYPNOSIS integrates advanced signal jamming capabilities designed to counter both standard and sophisticated navigation systems.
Its network-based command and control structure also enables seamless integration with air defense systems capable of neutralizing targets, supporting coordinated engagements during complex multi-vector attacks.
IAI said in a statement that the HYPNOSIS system can "counter coordinated attacks involving multiple threats approaching simultaneously from different directions."
According to the company, operating this system would reduce the chances of drones and missiles launched by hostile parties reaching their targets.
Protection of Strategic Assets
Boaz Levy, Chairman of the Board of Israel Aerospace Industries, said: "The unveiling of this technology reinforces the fact that the company provides advanced technologies that give our customers a decisive operational advantage for protecting national security and civilian lives alike."
Meanwhile, Guy Barlev, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Space Missile Systems Division at IAI, said: "The HYPNOSIS system provides a crucial and highly effective soft-kill defensive layer, enabling countries to address the growing spectrum of GNSS-based aerial threats."
He described the new system as "a significant leap forward in protecting strategic assets."
According to IAI, the HYPNOSIS system is designed to protect vital national assets such as energy facilities, strategic sites, and air defense systems.
