Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi emphasized on Friday the strength of the economic partnership with the United States.

This came during an extensive business conference hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, attended by al-Zaidi and a number of businessmen, bankers, representatives of American companies, financial institutions, and industrial and technology sectors, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's office carried by the Iraqi News Agency.

Al-Zaidi said that the government is working to transform Iraq's natural and mineral wealth into jobs that enhance prosperity and support economic growth rates, according to the statement.

He affirmed the Iraqi government's interest in communication, dialogue, and cooperation with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as it represents the place where economic decisions are made.

Al-Zaidi reiterated his keenness to present the major opportunities for investment and economic cooperation available in the Iraqi arena, across various levels and fields.

He explained that his country's economy is seeking partners in development and growth, not just contractors for implementation or supply.

The statement mentioned that a number of prominent representatives of American companies expressed their aspiration for effective partnership with Iraq, in light of the encouraging economic approach adopted by the government.

On Monday, al-Zaidi arrived in Washington at the head of a high-level government delegation, in his first foreign visit since assuming the premiership in May 2026, to hold talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and sign memoranda of understanding in the oil and gas sectors.
