Sisi: Gaza and Iran agreements must be fully implemented, attempts to thwart them prevented
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Saturday called for supporting the agreements reached in the Gaza Strip and Iran and implementing them 'fully', and preventing any attempts to thwart them, warning that Egypt's borders are a 'red line'.
In a speech delivered during the inauguration of the Strategic Command (The Octagon) in the New Administrative Capital, about 40 kilometers east of Cairo, Sisi said that the recent crises in the Middle East have caused heavy losses for Egypt, including the loss of about $10 billion in Suez Canal revenues.
The Egyptian president stressed that the root solution to the Middle East conflict lies in reaching a comprehensive and just peace agreement for the Palestinian cause, based on the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, emphasizing that 'there is no lasting peace nor popular normalization without just peace'.
Sisi affirmed that Egypt 'has been and will remain a safe and stable haven in a turbulent region', stressing that 'Cairo has made strenuous efforts to end wars, conflicts, and establish peace'.
"Red Line"
Sisi warned that Egypt's borders are a 'red line', affirming that 'protecting homelands is a responsibility that brooks no negligence'. He indicated that the state will not allow 'any tampering with the capabilities of its people, while adhering to peace for those who want peace'.
The Egyptian president pointed out that 'Egypt lost tens of billions of dollars due to the war on terrorism', adding that 'terrorists will not stop targeting the homeland'.
Sisi stressed that 'no one can threaten or harm the Egyptian state', noting that 'the Strategic Command establishes a firm doctrine that protecting homelands is a responsibility that brooks no negligence'.
The Egyptian president added: 'We moved the Ministry of Defense and official institutions out of the city center, so that incidents of besieging and stopping those institutions that occurred before are not repeated', referring to the events of the Muslim Brotherhood's siege of the main headquarters of state institutions in 2012.
Sisi inaugurated the new Strategic Command headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, with the aim of 'raising the combat and administrative readiness of the state', according to the State Information Service affiliated with the presidency.
