Informed sources and eyewitnesses told Asharq on Saturday that the Rapid Support Forces are mobilizing their elements in several areas in the Darfur and West Kordofan regions.

Eyewitnesses pointed out that the Rapid Support Forces transferred a number of their elements from North and South Darfur states to areas in West Darfur state.

The witnesses added that combat vehicles loaded with soldiers and military equipment moved from Darfur towards West Kordofan state, specifically towards the towns of Abu Zabad and Al-Nahud.

In the Blue Nile region, the town of Al-Kurmuk and its surrounding areas are witnessing the return of large numbers of displaced people, while authorities continue their efforts to restore basic services.

Al-Kurmuk is located in the far southeast of Sudan in Blue Nile state, on the border with Ethiopia, about 200 kilometers from Ed Damazin, the state capital.

Since last March, the Blue Nile region has witnessed military operations between the Sudanese army and its allies on one side, and the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North on the other.

Local sources and eyewitnesses had informed Asharq on Friday that the Rapid Support Forces regained control of the town of Kulbus in West Darfur state.

The sources clarified that the Sudanese army and the joint force of armed struggle movements allied with it are currently positioned at the entrances to Kulbus, after withdrawing from inside it.

In recent days, the Rapid Support Forces sent military reinforcements to the outskirts of Kulbus from several axes, in preparation for launching a large-scale attack.

On June 29 last, the joint force allied with the Sudanese army announced the capture of Kulbus following fierce battles with the Rapid Support Forces.

The Rapid Support Forces' recapture of the town came days after the joint force had announced its control, while Kulbus had been under the control of the Rapid Support Forces since October 2024 following violent clashes.

Kulbus locality is located in northern West Darfur state, near the Sudan-Chad border, about 130 kilometers north of El Geneina, and holds strategic importance due to its border location, as it is an important crossing for trade and population movement between Sudan and Chad.

Since the outbreak of war in Sudan in April 2023, the region has witnessed rapidly evolving security developments that have affected civilian movement and the delivery of humanitarian aid, amid ongoing confrontations and shifting control over several areas in the Darfur region.
