Trump imposes new tariffs on Canada.. Will a trade war erupt?
The White House announced that US President Donald Trump will impose comprehensive tariffs on Canada, a move that has raised fears of a new trade war between the two countries.
The proposed tariffs reach 50% on some Canadian goods, such as electrical machinery and equipment, and cover goods worth about $20 billion, according to the White House.
Trump justified the decision based on a customs law dating back nearly a century, although its use in this manner is unprecedented.
In response, Canadian officials have threatened to take similar measures if the tariffs take effect.
