The White House announced that the United States will impose 50% tariffs on a wide range of Canadian products, in response to what it described as 'discriminatory treatment' by Canada towards American cars, alcoholic beverages, and dairy products.

US President Donald Trump signed three executive orders imposing the new tariffs, based on a trade law dating back to 1930, which allows the US administration to impose tariffs of up to 50% on imports from specific countries.

The White House explained in a fact sheet that the tariffs will cover a wide range of Canadian goods, including wine, hockey sticks, cement, as well as dairy products, swimming pools, furniture, fishing rods, seeds, clothing, and wigs, in a step that represents a new escalation in trade tensions between Washington and Ottawa.
