The new tariffs cover a variety of products such as wine, hockey sticks, cement, dairy, furniture, swimming pools, fishing rods, clothing, and wigs, and will take effect on August 19, regardless of their connection to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, with exceptions including energy, potash, fish, and critical minerals.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said that Canada continues to take retaliatory actions against the United States, arguing that Canadian restrictions on American car imports contributed to a 22% decline over the past year.
