Washington Imposes New Sanctions on Iranian Financier Babak Zanjani's Network
The United States imposed new sanctions on the network of Iranian financier Babak Zanjani, intensifying economic pressure on Tehran as President Donald Trump threatens to launch a 'large-scale attack' if Iran does not return to the negotiating table.
The Treasury Department announced new sanctions on Friday against four individuals and nine entities linked to Zanjani's sanctions evasion network.
The blacklisted entities include those linked to his digital asset trading platforms, along with their directors and relevant executives.

Zanjani was sentenced to death in Iran on corruption charges in 2016, but his sentence was commuted in 2024.
Since then, he has reemerged as a public supporter of economic projects linked to the regime.
He established a network of prominent infrastructure and transportation projects alongside digital asset companies, according to a Treasury Department statement.

Targeting Iran's economic resources
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in the statement: 'The Treasury Department will continue to cut off access to economic resources for corrupt elites in the Iranian regime, along with their financiers and those who facilitate their activities.'
The new sanctions follow a package announced in January that also targeted the Iranian financier's network, as the Trump administration seeks to pressure Iran militarily, economically, and through a naval blockade to reach an agreement.
