International Competition Launched to Transform Mount Um Nithila into Cultural Destination in Medina
Madinah Development Authority invites designers to submit innovative ideas with total prizes exceeding 1.6 million riyals.
The Madinah Region Development Authority announced the launch of the international competition for design ideas for the 'Mount Um Nithila' site, as part of the 'Al-Munawarah Innovates' program, with prizes exceeding 1,600,000 riyals, aiming to transform the site into a sustainable cultural and tourist destination.
The authority explained that the competition targets designers, studios, and multidisciplinary design teams from all over the world to present innovative visions for developing the site. It highlighted the importance of considering the natural and environmental characteristics of Mount Um Nithila, through designs inspired by its volcanic nature and preserving its geological identity, while highlighting its cultural value in line with sustainable development goals, enhancing quality of life, and enriching the urban landscape of Medina.
Participation Details and Winner Selection
The authority added that the competition will select eight teams to reimagine the site, located 14 kilometers south of the Prophet's Mosque, to become a destination of cultural, environmental, and experiential importance. It noted that the competition is of the 'ideas with implementability' type, with the authority retaining the option to commission the winning team to develop or implement elements of the winning proposal, in whole or in part.
