Caffeine and severe high blood pressure

It may be beneficial for people with severe high blood pressure to reduce or stop caffeine intake.

A large study followed the health habits of 18,609 people over nearly 19 years. It found that those with stage 2 and stage 3 high blood pressure who drank two or more cups of coffee daily were more than twice as likely to die from stroke, heart attack, or cardiovascular disease compared to those who drank one cup or less per day.

Since strokes and heart attacks are associated with high blood pressure, it is possible that the temporary increase caused by caffeine pushed blood pressure to dangerous levels in some participants.
