Consultant: Not every recurrent drop in sodium is caused by kidneys or diuretics
Dr. Khaled Al-Nemer, consultant and professor of cardiology and arterial catheterization, said that not every recurrent drop in sodium is caused by the kidneys or diuretics.
Al-Nemer added, via platform X, that the cause may be a common drug such as Escitalopram (Cipralex), as it may cause a drop in sodium, especially in the elderly and during the first weeks of starting treatment or increasing the dose.
Al-Nemer continued in a series of awareness tweets that premature ventricular contractions (extra heartbeats) are caused by stimulants (caffeine, nicotine), stress, lack of sleep, acid reflux, changes in blood salts, some medications, hyperthyroidism, and uncontrolled blood pressure.
