Jeddah Municipality Destroys Over 4.5 Tons of Substandard Food
Jeddah Municipality destroyed over 4.5 tons of unlabeled and inedible food during a campaign in Al-Faisaliyah, closing five illegal commercial sites in a residential area.
Jeddah Municipality destroyed more than 4.5 tons of food and meat of unknown origin, unfit for consumption, during a joint field campaign in the Al-Faisaliyah district, which resulted in the seizure and closure of five random sites used for illegal commercial activities within a residential area.
Yasser bin Saraj Bakhsh, Director General of Monitoring and Handling Negative Phenomena at the municipality, said that monitoring teams detected a number of residential apartments being used for illegal commercial and food activities, including restaurants, kitchens, food processing units, catering services, and barbershops, operating in environments lacking health and regulatory requirements.
He noted that the campaign resulted in the destruction of quantities of meat of unknown origin and food prepared in unsystematic ways, confiscation of used equipment, and closure of violative sites. Meanwhile, materials fit for consumption were handed over to the 'Nikmat Al-Hifz' (Sustainability) Association, and legal measures were taken against the violators.
He stated that field teams also detected the use of violative buildings as housing for workers, noting that the campaign was carried out with support from the Sub-Municipality of Al-Matar and participation of several relevant authorities.
Jeddah Municipality affirmed its continued efforts in monitoring and handling negative phenomena, and enhancing supervision over violative economic activities, to contribute to protecting public health and raising the level of compliance with regulatory requirements, calling for reporting violations via the 'Baladi' application or the unified reporting center (940).
