The Jeddah Municipality destroyed more than 4.5 tons of food and meat of unknown origin and unfit for consumption, during a joint field campaign carried out in Al-Faisaliyah district, which resulted in the seizure and closure of 5 random sites that were exploited for illegal commercial activities in a residential area.
The Director General of Monitoring and Handling Negative Phenomena at the municipality, Yasser bin Siraj Bakhsh, explained that inspection teams monitored the exploitation of a number of residential apartments for operating illegal commercial and food activities, including restaurants, kitchens, food processing facilities, catering services, and barbershops, operating in environments lacking health and regulatory requirements.
He pointed out that the campaign resulted in the destruction of quantities of meat of unknown origin and food prepared in an irregular manner, confiscation of used equipment, and closure of the violating sites, while the consumable materials were handed over to the 'Hifz Al-Ni'amah' association (Istimrar), and legal measures were taken against the violators.
He reported that field teams also monitored the exploitation of violating buildings as housing for laborers, noting that the campaign was implemented with support from the Airport Sub-Municipality and participation of several relevant authorities.
Jeddah Municipality affirmed its continued efforts in monitoring and handling negative phenomena, and enhancing oversight of illegal economic activities, contributing to public health protection and raising compliance with regulatory requirements, calling for reporting violations through the 'Baladi' app or the unified complaints center (940).
