Makkah Red Crescent Handles Over 202,000 Emergency Calls in First Half of 2026
The Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Makkah region announced the statistics of emergency calls handled during the first half of 2026, as the Command, Control, and Medical Dispatch Center received the incoming calls, directed ambulance teams, and monitored their response to cases, totaling 202,103 calls across various governorates of the region.
The authority explained that medical cases constituted the largest proportion of calls, with a total of 173,282 cases, while ambulance teams responded to 28,821 traffic accident cases and various types of incidents.
Geographically, Jeddah Governorate recorded the highest number of medical cases with 93,108 cases, followed by the Holy Capital with 80,963 cases, then Taif Governorate with 28,032 cases, reflecting the increasing demand for ambulance services in the region's governorates.
As part of specialized ambulance services, the authority carried out 450 missions via air ambulance, contributing to the rapid transport of critical cases to specialized healthcare facilities, ensuring timely medical care.
Ambulance teams also handled 434 cases under the heart attack pathway, distributed as 230 cases in Jeddah Governorate, 173 cases in the Holy Capital, and 31 cases in Taif Governorate, following approved treatment pathways aimed at reducing time to reach specialized centers and increasing survival chances.
In the stroke pathway, the authority dealt with 465 cases, with 228 cases in Jeddah Governorate, 187 cases in the Holy Capital, and 50 cases in Taif Governorate, within an integrated system ensuring rapid diagnosis and transport during the golden treatment window, thereby reducing complications and increasing recovery chances.
The authority affirmed its readiness for the summer season by enhancing the deployment of ambulance and volunteer teams in high-density areas for visitors and picnickers, foremost among them the Grand Mosque, the waterfront in Jeddah Governorate, and Al-Ruddaf Park in Taif Governorate, in addition to supporting the Command, Control, and Medical Dispatch Center with the necessary cadres and mechanisms, ensuring rapid response and improving the quality of ambulance services provided.
