The National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa) launched a national campaign to vaccinate pets against rabies in 35 sites across various regions of the Kingdom, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance animal health and reduce the spread of zoonotic diseases.

The center explained that the campaign aims to vaccinate pets against rabies (Rabies), which is one of the most dangerous viral zoonotic diseases, often transmitted through bites or scratches from infected animals, affects the nervous system, and can lead to death if appropriate preventive treatment is not received in time.

Weqaa stated that the Kingdom pays great attention to combating rabies by implementing epidemiological surveillance programs, preventive vaccination of animals, investigation and rapid response to reports, in addition to raising community awareness about the importance of vaccination and reporting suspected cases, in cooperation with relevant authorities, contributing to enhancing the biosecurity and public health system. The center indicated that the campaign will be held from July 21 to 23, 2026, daily from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, calling on pet owners to take advantage of free vaccination services and go to designated sites in various regions of the Kingdom.

Weqaa stressed that this campaign is an extension of its efforts in preventing and controlling animal diseases and plant pests, and achieving the goals of the National One Health Strategy, which aims to protect human, animal, and environmental health, and enhance sustainability and food security in the Kingdom.
