Thirty-nine people have died due to the outbreak of dengue fever in the Blue Nile region in southeastern Sudan, while more than 350 confirmed cases of the disease have been recorded, including 76 cases in the city of Damazin, the capital of the region.

A member of the preparatory committee of the Sudanese Doctors' Union, internal medicine and epidemiology specialist Adeeba Ibrahim, stated that the number of fatalities included 13 cases in the city of Damazin and 26 cases in other towns and villages in the region.

She explained that the increase in infections is due to the deterioration of environmental sanitation services, pollution of water sources, and the spread of mosquitoes during the rainy season, calling for the strengthening of preventive measures, including providing safe drinking water, covering water storage containers, filling in stagnant pools, and spraying homes to combat mosquitoes during both day and night.
