Journalism: Dreams with Countless Wings! - Dr. Haya bint Abdulrahman Al-Samhari
Journalism tops the cultural components of civilized societies in all civilized countries of the world, and it also has an ample share in monitoring the pulse and approach of countries' politics; it is a revealer of civilization and thought; it is also a map full of the daily history of peoples, and it carries the banner of first interaction with the events of life and the universe. Journalism is also a cultural interaction available to the public and private without barrier, even if some entities have a commercial root because their foundation was formed by groups of enlightened individuals and institutions who saw in its establishment a window to broadcast civilization in the corridors of societies leading to urbanity. Journalism had its ancient classic formats for ages and then the modern electronic formats, and the journalistic platform remains a stimulating and leaping cultural authority inhabited by selected, captured, and transmitted knowledge.
May God have mercy on the guardian of journalism from the pioneering generation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Khamis, who says:
[They were truthful, and the inherited gifts of guides are her gifts,
They said: Journalism is a nation's mirror,
In it, its eyes are polished,
And in its folds are its good deeds.
The majestic one, no authority ascends,
Except above its loftiness are its authorities.]
And indeed, journalism with its sublime, dignified, and sincere form had a sincere, poignant, and transparent broadcast in its recent present among a number of intellectuals when print journalism entered a comparison with electronic journalism, which was settled in favor of the latter, but journalism has prevailed from the surface of the skin until today. So those who wrote about the reality of journalism today summarized and detailed the reality of journalistic institutions in our country, which opened their doors to enlightenment for nearly a century; and since the dawn of Saudi societal awareness, which has become of such charm, vitality, and fullness, that broadcast inflamed media circles and public opinion took a broad set of circulation and discussion because the issue in my view is directly national; and it contains images of the reality of journalistic institutions today.
It suffices us that journalism in our country is still full of singing and thought, the antidote of words, the marches and rounds of opinion, and firm stances with the twists of events, until white pages appeared on the horizons of the homeland!
When they talk about the authenticity of Saudi journalism as a creative media platform and still an inspiration, it is because it created points of light and still rises to the responsibility of the word, to a high ceiling of honesty, thus gaining in all its eras the trust of readers and the robustness of journalistic scoop. It embraced white spaces for formulating national development news and highlighting our country's testimonies in its seasons, and the Hajj season is but a just witness among the testimonies of our luminous journalism. Likewise, our journalism embraced influential documents of formulations defending our country and responses to those who deviated from the rightness of action and speech. It is a truthful and reliable source for international media, from which our country's positions on world events are frequently reported, thus contributing to shaping world public opinion through the status, strength, and credibility it has achieved, and through the free spaces for solid publishing granted by our dear country. And because our homeland today needs all the honest media platforms that clarify our country's civilization and the giant Vision 2030 that emerged in our flourishing eras, and about the exceptional Saudi political movement that roams the world and remains abundant and plentiful!
And because media power is cumulative and not a competition to rob the other; and because diversity in media form and the synergy of its platforms is part of what supports our country's landmarks, history, and identity, perhaps the Ministry of Media could dedicate a major platform within its structure to support journalism in its various forms and paths, and that the ministry launches an annual exhibition for journalism and its developmental achievement, taking in its support, awards, and accompanying activities what book fairs take, and that the evaluation of new journalistic entities should start from those exhibitions if approved.
[Protect the majesty of the pride,
And let its attributes remain in the same loftiness.]
