A joint field campaign by the Jeddah Municipality resulted in the seizure of 16,450 kg of tobacco products of unknown origin in a non-compliant warehouse in Al-Khumra district, south of Jeddah, used for packaging tobacco products, in addition to operating an independent activity of plastic recycling and waste bag production. Yasser Bakhsh, Director General for Monitoring and Addressing Negative Phenomena, said that field teams inspected the warehouse and found it fully used for grinding and packaging 'tanbak' of unknown origin in large quantities, in addition to two rooms dedicated for worker accommodation, as well as machines and equipment used for processing and manufacturing tobacco products. He explained that the campaign, carried out with support from several relevant authorities, resulted in the seizure of 16,450 kg of raw 'tanbak' and 450 bags of ready-made packages of 50 grams each. All seized quantities were destroyed at the site with support from the municipality's specialized departments, and legal procedures against the violators are being completed. He added that inspection revealed another independent activity in the warehouse: a plastic recycling and waste bag production plant bearing a commercial name printed on the products. The usable waste bags were inventoried and handed over to the Istadama Association for Preserving Grace. He pointed out that the site was secured and legal procedures against its owner are being completed, pending closure after the procedures are finalized.
