The Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Makkah region, launched the first phase of afforestation of 'Historic Jeddah' by planting 4,000 seedlings, as part of a plan targeting 16,000 to enhance environmental sustainability.
This initiative is part of this year's plans aimed at developing vegetation cover and improving the urban landscape in the historic area. The step aims to preserve urban components and provide green spaces that enrich the quality of life for visitors and residents.

These spaces contribute to improving the urban environment and supporting the region's status as a prominent cultural and tourist destination. The project reflects the integration of efforts between government agencies in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to upgrade historic cities. The Director General of the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Makkah region, Engineer Waleed Al Daghis, confirmed that this participation embodies the continuation of the ministry's efforts to enhance government partnerships, indicating that afforestation of historic sites supports sustainable environmental initiatives and improves quality of life.
Ongoing environmental projects
Meanwhile, the Director General of the Destination Management Office in Historic Jeddah, Bandar Naqro, explained that the initiative represents an extension of the ongoing environmental projects in the region, revealing that Historic Jeddah recorded the planting of 18,000 plants during 2025 within urban landscape development programs.
