Al-Jazeera - SPA:

A report issued by the World Bank, prepared in cooperation with the National Center for E-Learning, highlighted the contributions of the National Institute for Educational Professional Development from the capacity-building system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the field of artificial intelligence in education. This was part of the AISandBox initiative owned by the center, shedding light on its role in developing the professional capacities of teachers and school leaders, enhancing institutional readiness, and supporting the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

The report referred to the summer program 'Employing Artificial Intelligence in Digital Education,' implemented in cooperation between the National Center for E-Learning and the National Institute for Educational Professional Development, one of the capacity-building programs aimed at enabling teachers to employ AI applications in educational practices effectively and responsibly, and enhancing the readiness of educational cadres to adopt emerging technologies.

It addressed the institute's experience highlighting the importance of institutional readiness in adopting AI in education, explaining that the success of applying these technologies is linked to the integration of capacity building with the availability of infrastructure, leadership, implementation and monitoring mechanisms, and continuous support, contributing to achieving sustainable institutional adoption of AI.

It emphasized that expanding the use of AI in education requires sustaining professional development opportunities for teachers and educational leaders, pointing out the importance of cooperation with specialized bodies, including the National Institute for Educational Professional Development, to provide professional programs, applied support, and mechanisms that help educational institutions integrate AI applications into their practices effectively.

The report pointed to the importance of integrating roles among national bodies concerned with education and AI in the context of moving from the experimentation phase to broad institutional application, and listed the National Institute for Educational Professional Development among bodies with pivotal roles in the governance system, alongside the Ministry of Education, the Education and Training Evaluation Commission, and the National Curriculum Center, to enhance application quality, sustain professional development, and raise the readiness of the educational sector for digital transformation.

The report was based on the institute's participation as an institutional partner in interviews conducted by the World Bank team during the preparation of the study, reflecting the institute's contribution to enriching the report with national expertise and practices related to professional capacity building, competency development, and employing AI in education.

This coverage in the World Bank report confirms the position occupied by the National Institute for Educational Professional Development within the human capacity development system in the Kingdom, and its role in supporting the readiness of teachers and educational leaders to employ AI, and enhancing professional practices based on best global practices, contributing to building a more future-ready educational system and achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
