The Saudi national mathematics team returned home after participating in the 67th edition of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2026), hosted by Shanghai, China, achieving the best result in the Kingdom's history in the competition, by winning 6 international medals: 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals, amidst competition that brought together 660 male and female students representing 117 countries.

This achievement is an extension of the Kingdom's journey in international scientific Olympiads, following an honorable participation in which the team members represented the Kingdom at the largest global forum for secondary school students in mathematics, affirming the development of Saudi students' level and their ability to compete in the highest international scientific competitions.

The students Youssef Ayman Bakheet from the Royal Commission for Yanbu Education, Abdul Salam Abdullah Al-Sulami from the General Administration of Education in Medina Region, and Abdul Ilah Mohammed Al-Saqqaf from the General Administration of Education in Jeddah Governorate, won three silver medals, while the students Elias Shaker Al-Faraj, Abdullah Tariq Al-Amer from the General Administration of Education in the Eastern Region, and Fares Mohammed Al-Kanhal from the General Administration of Education in Riyadh Region, won three bronze medals.

This achievement raised the Kingdom's tally in the International Mathematical Olympiad to 88 international awards since the start of its participation in 2004, including 15 silver medals, 51 bronze medals, and 22 certificates of appreciation, confirming the continuous development witnessed in the level of Saudi students in global scientific competitions.

This achievement is the result of an intensive preparation and qualification journey undertaken by the team members throughout the year, under the supervision of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity 'Mawhiba', and in partnership with the Ministry of Education, within the Mawhiba International Olympiads Program, which provides an integrated system of scientific training and specialized camps inside and outside the Kingdom, with the aim of preparing students to compete in the most prominent international Olympiads, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of national talents and keeping pace with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in developing human capabilities.

The International Mathematical Olympiad is the oldest and most prominent global competition in mathematics for secondary school students, as its first edition was launched in 1959 in Romania with the participation of seven countries, before expanding to include today about 120 countries from around the world.
