The Northern Borders region is witnessing a notable presence of the crested lark in several of its open sites, as these wild birds roam the plains, sandy and gravelly lands, embodying the region's richness in biodiversity and its importance as a habitat for multiple species of wild and migratory birds.

Adnan Khalifa, a member of the Aman Environmental Society in the Northern Borders, explained that the crested lark is a common bird in desert and semi-desert environments, characterized by a prominent crest on the top of its head that it can raise or lower depending on its state, as well as its sandy-colored feathers that give it a high ability to camouflage and blend with the terrain, helping it avoid predators.

He pointed out that this bird belongs to the lark family and feeds on seeds, grains, and small insects, making it an important element in the ecological balance by contributing to the reduction of certain insect pests, in addition to its role in spreading wild plant seeds.

He noted that the crested lark is known for its melodious voice and distinctive behavior during the breeding season, and it builds its nests directly on the ground among grasses and low shrubs, using its colors that blend with the surrounding environment to provide protection for its young.

Khalifa affirmed that the Northern Borders region provides suitable natural habitats for this type of bird, thanks to the vast wilderness and diversity of seasonal vegetation following rainfall, calling for the preservation of natural habitats and reducing practices that may affect wildlife, thus contributing to the protection of biodiversity and sustainability of ecosystems, in line with the goals of Vision 2030 regarding environmental conservation and development of natural resources.
