His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, sponsored on Monday at the Emirate Diwan the ceremony honoring distinguished beekeepers and participants in the fifth season of the 'Mangrove Honey' initiative, organized by the Eastern Province branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

His Highness the Governor of the Eastern Province emphasized that the support and attention given to the agricultural and environmental sectors by the wise leadership—may God support them—has contributed to enhancing quality initiatives that combine environmental conservation and natural resource development. His Highness pointed out the importance of continuing efforts that support the agricultural sector, preserve environmental diversity, and achieve sustainable utilization of the natural assets that distinguish the region.

Engineer Fahd bin Ahmed Al-Hamzi, Director General of the Eastern Province branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, delivered a speech in which he affirmed that this honor is an extension of the branch's and its affiliated entities' efforts in developing the agricultural and environmental sectors, supporting beekeepers, and adopting modern technologies to increase productivity, enhance food security, and sustain natural resources, in line with the goals of the 'Saudi Green' and 'Middle East Green' initiatives launched by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister—may God protect him—through expanding the cultivation of mangrove, shura, and qurm trees along the Arabian Gulf coasts and preserving coastal ecosystems.

Al-Hamzi added that the 'Mangrove Honey' initiative has turned into a national success story, embodying the efforts of Eastern Province beekeepers and their ability to produce high-quality premium honey that has achieved a notable presence in local, regional, and international forums, and contributed to supporting honey production, diversifying the economy, and localizing this industry.

Al-Hamzi explained that the initiative was launched in 2021 under the generous patronage of His Highness the Governor of the Eastern Province, at two sites on the Arabian Gulf coast, with the participation of 17 beekeepers and 1,500 beehives, producing 2.5 tons of honey. The initiative witnessed rapid growth until 2025, expanding to more than 6 sites with the participation of 41 beekeepers and 4,169 beehives, while production volume exceeded 20 tons, achieving a growth rate of over 700% compared to its launch year.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, His Highness the Governor of the Eastern Province honored the distinguished beekeepers and the participating entities in the initiative.
