Historical sources confirm that the Well of Ares in Quba is the well into which the ring of the Prophet - peace be upon him - fell, and it later became known as the Well of the Ring. The Encyclopedia of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia states that the site is one of the most famous wells associated with the Prophet's biography in Medina. It is narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari that the Prophet - peace be upon him - sat by the well, then allowed Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman - may God be pleased with them - to enter, and gave them glad tidings of Paradise. This narration gives the well a special place in Islamic history. The Prophet's ring was used to seal official letters, was made of silver, and engraved with "Muhammad, the Messenger of God." According to books of biography, the ring passed to Abu Bakr, then Umar, then Uthman - may God be pleased with them - after the death of the Prophet - peace be upon him.
