Journalist: Pakistan Supports Kingdom, Expresses Displeasure with Iran's Actions
Journalist Abdul Rahman Hayat said that Pakistan is committed to the Islamabad memorandum but feels displeased with Iran's actions, especially regarding the Houthi file, and reaffirms its support for the Kingdom's measures.
Hayat added, in an intervention on Al-Arabiya FM, that Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and working with other mediators to find a formula for understanding that leads to solutions, and considers the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington as a basic foundation for the return of the American and Iranian parties to it.
He added that Pakistan has not taken any actual measures for 10 days as it used to do to maintain the diplomatic track and support the peace process; because Pakistan is dealing quite differently with Iran, and therefore the recent visit of the Iranian Interior Minister to Islamabad failed, as he did not obtain any Pakistani statement supporting the Iranian position.
The journalist continued that Pakistan has adopted strong-toned positions and warned the Iran-backed Houthi militias against targeting Pakistani commercial ships, and strong statements were issued from Pakistan affirming its support and standing with the Kingdom to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He added that Iran has lost Pakistan's sympathy due to Tehran's non-compliance with the peace process and the memorandum of understanding, which took Islamabad more than three months to reach.
It is noteworthy that Iran has repeatedly committed aggressions against Gulf countries despite regional states' efforts to contain the US-Iran conflict. Iran thus put mediators in a difficult position after challenging de-escalation efforts and violating the memorandum of understanding signed between it and the United States with Pakistani mediation, which was supposed to pave the way for a negotiation track lasting 60 days and covering all outstanding issues between Iran and the United States.
