King Abdulaziz University has approved the academic restructuring of the College of Mining, a new step in completing the establishment phases of the college, enhancing the university's role in preparing and qualifying specialized national competencies and supporting the current and future needs of the mining sector in the Kingdom.

This step is an extension of the cooperation agreement signed between the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources and King Abdulaziz University to establish the college, as part of enhancing integration between the academic sector and the industry and mineral resources system, and developing academic programs and specializations linked to the sector's needs.

The approval included changing the name of the College of Earth Sciences to the College of Mining, and restructuring its academic departments to consist of two scientific departments: the Department of Earth Sciences and Geophysics, and the Department of Mining Engineering, thereby investing the university's accumulated academic and scientific expertise in earth sciences disciplines and enhancing their integration with engineering specializations related to the mining sector.

The academic restructuring of the College of Mining represents an important step in completing the establishment of the college and embodying the partnership between King Abdulaziz University and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, contributing to the development of a specialized educational and research system and preparing qualified national competencies that meet the needs of the mining sector and keep pace with its development.

Through the college, the university aims to enhance integration between education, scientific research, and the sector's needs, develop distinctive programs and specializations, and build effective partnerships with relevant entities, contributing to human capital development and supporting universities' contribution to promising national sectors.

The College of Mining seeks to contribute to developing specialized national capabilities in the fields of earth sciences, geophysics, and mining engineering, and to enhance research, innovation, and relevant academic and industrial partnerships, supporting the Kingdom's targets in developing the mining sector and strengthening its role in diversifying the national economy.
