Amid a state of sorrow, an 80-year-old woman and two girls (8 and 7 years old) were buried the evening before last, while four others from the same family sustained varying degrees of suffocation and burns, including the father who suffered severe burns over several parts of his body, following a fire that broke out due to an air conditioner during the afternoon hours in a traditional house in the Al-Fawaris neighborhood in the historic center of Al-Hufuf in Al-Ahsa. Amid the crowd of mourners at Al-Khudud Cemetery in Al-Hufuf, relatives of the deceased told Al-Watan that the fire occurred at one o'clock in the afternoon last Thursday, and started from an air conditioner in a room on the second floor of the house, spreading throughout the entire floor. Ten people live in the house: the grandmother, father, mother, a maid, two girls, and four boys. They added that the grandmother died 48 hours after the fire, while the two girls died before reaching the hospital. One of the boys managed to escape outside the house at the time of the fire, and the maid survived. Two of the boys have recovered, while the father is still undergoing treatment after being transferred from King Fahd Hospital in Al-Hufuf to Dammam Central Hospital to complete his treatment. One of the boys is still receiving treatment at King Fahd Hospital in Al-Hufuf. The fire occurred while the mother was not at home. Fire and rescue teams from the Civil Defense responded to the fire, extinguishing it and rescuing those trapped, while ambulance teams transported the injured. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances and causes of the fire and to complete legal procedures. Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Dar Al-Salam Association for Honoring the Dead in Al-Ahsa, retired Brigadier General Abduljalil Al-Nasir, stated that the association promptly contacted the relatives of the deceased, provided all services, coordinated with them to determine the burial cemetery, transport the bodies, and schedule funeral and burial ceremonies. The association made arrangements and implementation mechanisms for everything related to transporting the deceased from transport to burial. The association assigned those in charge of the Rahma Center for Honoring the Dead, the body overseeing Al-Khudud Cemetery in Al-Hufuf, to provide hearses to transport the deceased from the hospital to the cemetery, prepare everything needed for washing and burial, and complete all legal and humanitarian procedures for the deceased and their families in coordination with relevant authorities. The center's intervention is part of its humanitarian role in providing full care for the families of the deceased and easing their burden in such circumstances, as well as offering condolences to their families. The Director of Public Relations and Media at Al-Faisaliya Charitable Center, affiliated with Al-Bir Association in Al-Ahsa, Abdulwahab Al-Hamad, pointed out that a team was formed from the center to assist the families, providing urgent support to alleviate the impact of the disaster and help them overcome the tragedy.
