The branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Mecca region and its offices in the governorates achieved qualitative achievements in afforestation works during the first half of 2026, as part of its efforts to enhance environmental sustainability, increase the green area, and develop vegetation cover in the region.

These achievements included planting more than 145,000 seedlings, implementing more than 300 green initiatives in several sites across the Mecca region, in addition to rehabilitating 91 farms with an area of 4,300 hectares, planted with more than 19,278 environment-friendly seedlings.

The Director General of the branch, Engineer Waleed bin Ibrahim Al Dughais, affirmed that these figures reflect the volume of efforts exerted by the branch and its offices in achieving the targets of the Saudi Green Initiative, pointing out that the branch continues to work on expanding the scope of afforestation and land reclamation, which contributes to increasing vegetation cover and enhancing environmental sustainability in the Mecca region.
