Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority Initiates a Number of Criminal Cases

«Al Jazeera» - SPA:
The official spokesman of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority stated that the authority has initiated a number of criminal cases during the past period, and the legal procedures against their perpetrators are underway. The most prominent cases are as follows:
First case:
A citizen, a businessman, was detained for offering an amount of (1,600,000) one million six hundred thousand riyals to a customs broker in exchange for facilitating the entry procedures of two shipping containers through the Jeddah Islamic Port containing a restricted import substance (tobacco), in return for not paying the government customs duties due on that shipment, which amounted to (14,000,000) fourteen million riyals.
Second case:
An employee working at the Ministry of Health in one of the regions was detained for receiving an amount of (900,000) nine hundred thousand riyals in installments in exchange for awarding a number of projects to a commercial entity in an unlawful manner.
Third case:
In cooperation with the Ministry of Energy, a resident working on one of the ministry's projects was arrested upon receiving an amount of (200,000) two hundred thousand riyals in exchange for not issuing fines and violations against a commercial entity amounting to (1,500,000) one million five hundred thousand riyals.
Fourth case:
A resident working at an engineering consulting office and appointed as an expert by the Commercial Court in a commercial dispute case was arrested upon receiving an amount of (50,000) fifty thousand riyals out of a total agreed amount of (100,000) one hundred thousand riyals, in exchange for preparing a technical report in favor of one of the parties to the dispute in an unlawful manner.
Fifth case:
In cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, a former military officer in the General Directorate of Passports was detained for receiving financial amounts totaling (60,500) sixty thousand five hundred riyals, in exchange for completing procedures for transactions related to expatriates in an unlawful manner.
Sixth case:
An employee working at the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority in one of the regions was arrested upon receiving an amount of (55,000) fifty-five thousand riyals, in exchange for modifying the status of goods entering the Kingdom in an unlawful manner.
Seventh case:
Two employees working at the municipality of one of the governorates were detained for receiving an amount of (40,000) forty thousand riyals in exchange for completing procedures for transactions in an unlawful manner.
Eighth case:
An employee working at the secretariat of one of the regions was arrested upon receiving an amount of (10,000) ten thousand riyals out of a total agreed amount of (50,000) fifty thousand riyals, in exchange for completing a transaction procedure at the secretariat in an unlawful manner.
Ninth case:
An employee working at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in one of the regions was arrested upon receiving an amount of (10,000) ten thousand riyals, in exchange for not issuing violations against a commercial entity during his field inspections.
Tenth case:
An employee working at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in one of the governorates and a citizen were detained, as the former received an amount of (2,500) two thousand five hundred riyals from the latter in exchange for handing over a false letter addressed to the General Directorate of Passports to cancel an absence report on a resident with the aim of transferring his sponsorship to the latter.
Eleventh case:
Four employees working at the municipality of one of the governorates were detained for employing a number of citizens related to them in an unlawful manner, and disbursing amounts as salaries to a number of resident workers at the municipality and benefiting from them in an unlawful manner.
Twelfth case:
A resident working at a health facility was detained for receiving a sum of money in exchange for issuing a medical examination report and laboratory test for an expatriate without his presence, and attaching the reports through the electronic platform of the (Baladi) system.
Thirteenth case:
In cooperation with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, an employee working at the ministry in one of the regions was detained for seizing a number of computers while he was working as a warehouse keeper for the ministry in the region.
Fourteenth case:
An employee working at a driving school in one of the governorates was arrested upon receiving a sum of money from a resident in exchange for completing the procedures for issuing a driver's license without attending the school.
Fifteenth case:
The manager of a periodic inspection station and an employee at the same station in one of the regions were detained for receiving sums of money in exchange for completing vehicle inspection procedures in an unlawful manner.
The official spokesman of the authority confirmed that it continues to monitor and apprehend anyone who encroaches on public funds or exploits the job to achieve personal interest or harm the public interest, and to hold them accountable even after the end of their relationship with the job, as financial and administrative corruption crimes are not subject to statute of limitations, and that the authority is proceeding to apply what the law stipulates against violators without leniency.
