(CNN) -- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio refused to disclose details on reports this week that the Trump administration had agreed to reach a comprehensive civilian nuclear deal with Riyadh.

Rubio told reporters Wednesday that he had 'seen the same reports this morning,' but declined to provide clarification on the alleged agreement.

Speaking at a press conference in Manila, Philippines, he said: 'I'll leave it to White House officials to issue an official statement on anything related to this matter.' He added: 'When there is something to say, we will announce it through official channels.'

CNN reported over the weekend that the White House had given preliminary approval to allow Saudi Arabia to enrich uranium without submitting to international safeguards aimed at limiting the development of nuclear weapons, based on sources familiar with the matter and documents seen by the network. The agreement was awaiting President Donald Trump's signature.

Late Tuesday, the New York Times reported that the agreement would be announced Wednesday, citing unnamed US officials, while the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had officially approved the agreement.
