The Saudi Arabian mathematics team continued its brilliance on the international stage, achieving its best result in its history at the International Mathematical Olympiad by winning 6 various medals during the 67th edition hosted by Shanghai, China, with participation of 666 students representing 117 countries.

Three silver medals and three bronze medals

The Saudi participation saw Yusuf Ayman Bakheet from the Royal Commission Education in Yanbu, Abdul Salam Abdullah Al-Salami from the General Administration of Education in the Medina region, and Abdul Ilah Muhammad Al-Saqqaf from the General Administration of Education in Jeddah Governorate awarded silver medals.

Meanwhile, Elias Shakir Al-Faraj and Abdullah Tariq Al-Amer from the General Administration of Education in the Eastern Region, along with Fares Muhammad Al-Kanhal from the General Administration of Education in the Riyadh region, won three bronze medals, confirming the Saudi team's distinguished presence among the elite participants in the tournament.

Best tally in participation history

This achievement represents the most notable milestone in the Kingdom's record at the International Mathematical Olympiad since its participation began in 2004, as the total Saudi awards have risen to 88 international awards, including 15 silver medals, 51 bronze medals, in addition to 22 certificates of appreciation.

Year-round scientific preparation

This excellence came after an intensive preparation and qualification program supervised by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity 'Mawhiba', in partnership with the Ministry of Education, within the Mawhiba International Olympiads Program, which includes advanced stages of theoretical and practical training, as well as internal and external camps aimed at honing students' skills and enhancing their readiness for global competitions.

This achievement reflects the efforts made in developing national capabilities, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to prepare a generation capable of competing in international scientific forums and representing the Kingdom in the best possible way.

The International Mathematical Olympiad is the oldest and most prominent global competition for secondary school students. Its first edition was launched in 1959 in Romania with only seven participating countries, before expanding to include about 120 countries from around the world today, making it one of the most important scientific forums for discovering and nurturing mathematical talents.
